I. Scholarship Categories and Application

(I) Bilateral Program


This program aligns with cooperation and exchange agreements between the Chinese government and other nations, welcoming undergraduates, postgraduates, general, and senior scholars.


To apply, candidates must submit their applications to the dispatching department in their home countries.


(II) University Program


Financing the education of exceptional international students in China, this program specifically targets individuals directly chosen and recommended by designated Chinese universities. Diverse student categories are supported, each adhering to the specific requirements of respective universities.


(III) Great Wall Program


Presenting a comprehensive scholarship opportunity facilitated by the esteemed United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This initiative aims to sponsor students and scholars hailing from developing countries, empowering them to engage in academic pursuits and research endeavors within the boundaries of China. This exclusive scholarship is available solely for general scholars and senior scholars.


To embark on this transformative journey, aspiring candidates must duly submit their applications to the National Commissions for UNESCO in their respective home countries. This vital step marks the commencement of a promising pathway towards enhanced educational prospects and cross-cultural collaboration, fostering global understanding and progress.


(IV) MOFCOM

The Degree Education Programs, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, aim to foster high-end business officials and managerial personnel for recipient countries. These programs offer one-year and two-year master’s programs, as well as three-year doctoral programs, catering to various applied fields. All courses are conducted in English, ensuring accessibility to international students. With a focus on stimulating economic cooperation and development, these programs have gained significant attention and support from the host governments.

II. Supporting Categories, Duration, Institutions, and Majors

(I) Categories of Support


The Chinese Government Scholarship programs provide sponsorship for undergraduates, postgraduates, as well as general and senior scholars.


(II) Duration


The Chinese Government Scholarship encompasses both major study and Chinese language (preparatory) study. Language courses have a duration of one year, while the scholarship’s duration for major study aligns with the specific program requirements.


(III) Institutions and Fields of Study


Recipients of the scholarship have the opportunity to pursue academic programs at designated Chinese universities. These universities offer a wide array of fields of study, including science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, economics, law, management, education, history, literature, philosophy, fine arts, and more.

III. Scholarship Coverage

The Chinese Government Scholarship offers comprehensive support, covering the following aspects:


1. Tuition fees;


2. Provision of a free university dormitory or accommodation subsidy;


3. Monthly stipends, as follows:

Undergraduates: CNY 2,500 per month;

Master’s students/general scholars: CNY 3,000 per month;

Doctoral students/senior scholars: CNY 3,500 per month.

4. Comprehensive medical insurance, with an annual coverage of:

CNY 800 per person for programs lasting a year or more;

CNY 400 per person for programs lasting less than six months.


IV. Eligibility

To qualify for the Chinese Government Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:


1. Hold citizenship of a country other than the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and possess sound mental and physical health.


2. For undergraduate programs, be an academically outstanding high school diploma holder or its equivalent, and be below 25 years of age at the time of application.


3. For Master’s programs, be an academically exceptional Bachelor’s degree holder or its equivalent, and be below 35 years of age at the time of application.


4. For doctoral programs, be an academically exceptional Master’s degree holder or its equivalent, and be below 40 years of age at the time of application.


5. For general scholar programs, be a high school diploma holder or possess higher qualifications, and be below 45 years of age at the time of application.


6. For senior scholar programs, be a Master’s degree holder or an associate professor (or above), and be below 50 years of age at the time of application.


7. For Chinese-taught undergraduate or general scholar programs (excluding Chinese language majors), applicants must have passed the HSK (Level 3).


8. For Chinese-taught senior scholar programs, applicants must have passed the HSK (Level 3).


9. For Chinese-taught postgraduate programs, applicants must have passed the HSK (Level 4).


10. For programs taught in a language other than Chinese, candidates must meet the language proficiency and academic requirements set by the university of their preference, among other admission criteria.
